Team Saguindel Wins the Inaugural Grey Cooper Invitational By The Slimmest of Margins

On a beautiful day that honored one of its founding members, Grey Cooper, the Inaugural Grey Cooper Invitational Tournament concluded with a thrilling finish on the final hole to crown a champion: Team Saguindel. Led by PGAHT tour veteran Ted Saguindel, alongside his son Brayden and fellow tour veteran Chris Hogan, Team Saguindel fought tenaciously to emerge victorious from a competitive field of five talented teams. Their victory, secured by a single shot margin, was attributed to their impressive performance, marked by seven birdies and just one bogey, including a dominant display on all four Par 5s with birdies on holes 3, 5, 14, and the challenging 18th hole.

Despite a strong start on the front nine, Team Birdie Brigade, winners of four PGAHT tournaments in 2023, faltered on the back nine, missing crucial birdie putts on the 18th hole and ultimately finishing as runners-up by a single stroke.

Similarly, Team Marquez showed promise with a solid front-nine performance, but a costly bogey on the 17th hole and missed birdie opportunities on the 18th prevented them from clinching victory, leaving them as runners-up.

Team Jarboe, though starting well with an early birdie, struggled with missed putts on the front nine. However, they displayed resilience on the back nine, finishing at a commendable -3 with birdies on key holes.

Meanwhile, Team Kremin, featuring newcomers Andrew Sanchez and Katie Kilian, showcased impressive golf throughout the tournament, marred only by a few early missed opportunities, but finished strongly with a birdie on the final hole.

The PGAHT is renowned for its passionate players who share a love for the game of golf. Our monthly gatherings welcome new members and foster camaraderie while creating lasting memories. Honoring the memory of our original member, Grey Cooper, added significance to this memorable day.

Our next event will be held on May 25, 2024, at Rancho Solano Golf Course in Fairfield, CA. We look forward to seeing you all there!
