Team Kremin Wins The Memorial

On a picturesque yet blustery day at Boundary Oak Golf Course, the 2023 Memorial tournament unfolded, featuring an innovative 4-man scramble team format. The event proved to be a resounding success, captivating the participants and spectators alike.

Comprising a field of four teams, The Memorial showcased a display of exceptional skill and strategy. Emerging victorious was Team Kremin, comprised of  Jason Kremin, Patrick Samples, Chris Chenault, and Marcel Crossland. Their flawless round, marked by three birdies at holes 3, 4, and 5, as well as an impressive 15 pars, culminated in a commendable 3 under par finish. This achievement allowed them to secure the coveted title, narrowly surpassing the competition presented by Team Birdie Brigade and Team Cabrera, both concluding their rounds at 1 under par. Notably, Jason Kremin's exceptional chip in for birdie on the challenging Par 5 3rd hole stood out as the shot of the day for the triumphant champions.

Team Birdie Brigade, consisting of Robert Pierce, John Nunes, Greg Nunes, and Daniel Lucero, exhibited remarkable prowess, securing birdies on holes 2, 8, and 10. Nevertheless, their overall performance was marred by unfortunate bogeys on holes 3 and 17, which proved to be costly setbacks. The team encountered difficulties with their putting and struggled to consistently navigate the demanding greens, ultimately shaping the narrative of their day. Multiple missed putts that narrowly grazed the hole, thwarting potential birdies or pars, emerged as the defining factor.

Similarly, Team Cabrera, comprising Gerald Cabrera, Ryan O'Keefe, Jimmy Huang, and Tony Mendoza, showcased their talents with birdies on holes 11 and 12. However, their promising performance was somewhat undermined by a bogey on hole 10, coupled with a series of missed putts on the challenging greens, once again leaving them trailing behind.

Meanwhile, Team Dolojan, initially consisting of Eric Dolojan, Robert Holmes, Troy Marquez, and James Ryan, faced initial adversity as James Ryan withdrew from the competition at a late stage. Despite the setback, they demonstrated resilience and tenacity throughout the event. While encountering bogeys on holes 2, 4, 11, and 15 proved to be formidable challenges, the withdrawal of Robert Holmes due to injury after the 12th hole left Eric and Troy to valiantly persevere as a duo. Ultimately, they concluded their round with a respectable score of +4, reflecting their unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.

The consensus among all participating players was unanimous in highlighting the enjoyable nature of the 4-man scramble format. This format enabled all participants to engage in the competition without the burden of individual scoring, resulting in a more relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Looking ahead, the next upcoming tournament, The Masters of Hack, is scheduled for Saturday, June 24th, at Paradise Valley Golf Course in Fairfield. Once again, the 4-man scramble format will be implemented, promising another enthralling golfing experience.

Stay tuned for more updates as the event approaches.
