Team Birdie Brigade Lives Up To Their Name With A Record Performance

On a splendid morning in Oakland, Team Birdie Brigade commenced the day with remarkable early energy, fully embodying their distinctive moniker by delivering a succession of birdies on the challenging Lake Chabot course. This impressive performance secured their victory in the East Bay Open, setting a new record score of 10-under par with birdies on holes 2, 3, 8, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, and 18. Despite a modest-sized and depleted field, the trio skillfully capitalized on the additional shot opportunities, resulting in a truly remarkable round. Leveraging their exceptional driving distance, impeccable short game, and proficient putting skills, the Birdie Brigade clinched an extraordinary total of 10 birdies, flawlessly avoiding any bogeys.

Both Tony Mendoza and John Nunes exhibited exceptional prowess in driving, consistently finding the fairways in regulation, and impressively reaching nearly every green within regulation as well. The pivotal distinction emerged from their short game proficiency, leading Robert Holmes, Mendoza, and Nunes to contend with birdie putts on nearly every hole. Only on a limited number of occasions did they encounter the need to expertly recover to salvage par. The consensus was unanimous in acknowledging the collective nature of this achievement as a team endeavor.

Securing the runner-up position was Team Dolojan, who participated with an unusual 5-man roster. Their display of exceptional golfing acumen translated into a commendable 7-under par finish. Guided by Eric Dolojan, Ray Viado, Edgar Suarez, Troy Marquez, and the newcomer Steve Peralta, Team Dolojan harnessed their driving proficiency and impressive short game to generate numerous birdie opportunities. The distinction between their first and runner-up finish was determined by a handful of missed putts.

Claiming the third position was Team Hom, which also encountered challenges due to a limited team size of three players. Throughout the round, Team Hom confronted struggles, yet ultimately relished the experience of being out on the course. Team Hom welcomed newcomer, Bill Hatfield, who expressed his enjoyment on joining the PGAHT. A point of contention arose regarding the allocation of extra shots for the threesome. Not realizing their opportunities to use extra shots significantly influenced their final score.

In summary, the East Bay Open proved to be a triumph, fostering camaraderie among all participants and facilitating an enjoyable day of golfing against the backdrop of another spectacular bay day. Looking ahead, the tour's second major event of the season, the US Hackers Open, awaits next month. Further details, including the date and venue, will be communicated in the imminent days.
