Cash Money Brothers Cash In To Win The Delta Classic

On a splendid day at Lone Tree Golf Course in Antioch, Team CMB emerged victorious in the Delta Classic, triumphing in a tie-breaker against the seasoned Team Birdie Brigade, who had previously secured a masterful win at the Masters last month. Under clear blue skies and warm temperatures, the golf course displayed satisfactory conditions, though the greens remained a bit rough after recent maintenance work.

Team CMB, comprised of tour veterans Gerald Cabrera, Jason Kremin, Gino Susim, and Patrick Samples, showcased their skillful brand of New Jack Golf, employing long drives, precise approach shots, and clutch putting to conquer the challenging greens at Lone Tree. Their impressive performance yielded seven birdies and no bogeys, culminating in an outstanding score of -7.

Securing the runner-up position was Team Birdie Brigade, the reigning Masters Champions, also finishing at -7. True to their name, they carded eight birdies but were set back by a bogey on the tough Par-4 7th hole, proving to be the pivotal factor that determined their placement. Greg Nunes, Daniel Lucero, and Brady Clark were consistent off the tee, hitting many fairways, and multiple approach shots that spearheaded the birdie brigade. But it was John Nunes who delivered a remarkable shot of the day on the 13th hole, rescuing the team by hitting a 3-wood into the wind from the adjacent fairway, a daunting 240 yards away, to save par. Missed birdie putts on holes 17 and 18 further impacted their final standing.

Team HWA, comprised of Eric Dolojan, Troy Marquez, and newcomers Ray Viado and James Ryan, demonstrated commendable play, finishing with a solid score of -4. They achieved four birdies without any bogeys, showcasing their steady performance throughout the round.

Team Death Penalty, with tour vets Ryan O'Keefe and Chris Hogan, along with tour rookie, Rob Lagomarsino, concluded at -1 and introduced newcomer Thomas Jarboe. The team started strong with three consecutive birdies on holes 3, 4, and 5 but suffered a couple of bogeys on holes 6 & 7 to halt their momentum. Nonetheless, their composed play contributed to their respectable score.

Similarly finishing at -1, Team Unfriendly Wagers welcomed back Grey Cooper and Ted Saguindel, former PGAHT members, after an extended break from the sport. Overcoming a sluggish start and finishing +1 at the turn, they rallied with birdies on holes 16 and 17, resulting in a tie for the fourth position. Long drives by Tony Mendoza, and consistent play around the greens by Robert Holmes contributed mightily to their respectable score.

Once again, the 4-man scramble format was well-received among all participants, aligning with the PGAHT's vision of creating lasting memories, fostering enjoyment for all, and culminating in a formal introduction and a delightful meal at the end of the day. Looking ahead, we anticipate the forthcoming Tour Championship. Stay tuned for further updates as the event approaches.
