Alejandro Storms The Back-9 To Win The GBC

On Sunday, March 22nd, the weather forecast predicted showers and high winds, and the PGAHT pros at Brentwood had to battle the challenging conditions. Despite the wind advisory, Eric Alejandro emerged as the winner of the 2009 Greater Brentwood Classic with an impressive performance on the back-9. After a rocky start with five bogeys on the front, Alejandro quickly turned his game around with pars on holes 10, 11, 13, 15, and 17. He finished with a remarkable 7-under par 91, securing his first PGAHT title and celebrating with his sponsor, Grey Goose. Alejandro's win was a testament to his skill and determination, and Grey Goose expressed confidence in his future success on the tour.

Veteran golfer Josh Westaby also had a solid performance in the difficult conditions, scoring 2-under par 109 and taking second place with a turn to boot. Westaby has been working hard on his game and it's starting to pay off, as he continues to show steady improvement and attract potential sponsors like Geico.

Another highlight of the day was Robert Holmes, who broke a three-year streak of struggles and claimed third place with a respectable 2-over par 112. Holmes thanked his sponsors at Callaway Golf and Roland J. Maples Esq. Golf for their support, and he is now setting his sights on joining his brother Ralph as a tour champion at The Players next month. Holmes' determination and perseverance are a testament to the competitive spirit of the PGAHT tour.

In the battle for fourth place, Gino Susim and John Nunes both managed respectable scores. Susim finished with a 3-over par 92, while Nunes matched him with a 94. Despite being considered the favorite at the GBC, it was noted that Alejandro had a better understanding of the course than Susim. Susim's scorecard showed only a few blemishes, with doubles at holes 9, 13, and 18. With improved putting next month, Susim, the 2008 PGAH Champion, could pose a significant threat at The Players. His sponsors at Nike, Ping, and Bobby Jones Golf expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, "We know Gino is on track to achieve big things this year. He secured his first title last year, and we expect him to add two more this year."

On the other hand, John Nunes, the reigning Masters of Hack Champion, faced some challenges on holes 6, 9, and 16, which offset his good work on holes 1, 4, 5, 7, and 11 where he managed pars.
