Nunes and Hom Once Again Share A Major

On a day of impeccable weather, Steve Hom and John Nunes triumphed over the lightning fast greens at Boundary Oak, shooting matching 6-under pars to share the title of the 2008 U.S. Hackers Open. This victory marked Steve Hom's first win and a remarkable 7th tour title for John Nunes, the best in his career. Hom's impressive performance included an opening score of 33 on the first turn, followed by a scorching 25 on the second turn, featuring pars on holes 7, 8, 9, and 11. Nunes played a steady round of golf, sprinkling five pars throughout his game and finishing with a field-best score of 31 on the final turn, securing another title. Nunes credited his Ping irons for giving him the edge he needed to achieve victory, a sentiment echoed by his sponsors at Ping. Congratulations to both Steve Hom and John Nunes for their outstanding performance.

Rob Pierce made a strong statement with a 4-under par 105, securing 2nd place in the tournament. Pierce displayed impressive consistency, recording bogey or better on 10 holes. If he can maintain this level of play and minimize damage on the challenging holes, he has the potential to add more titles to his resume. Pierce is expected to be a formidable contender at the upcoming Masters of Hack next month, as his sponsors at SkyCaddie and Odyssey Putters express confidence in his abilities. Odyssey Putters stated, "With our white-hot putter in his bag, there's no way Pierce won't secure a title this year. He's playing at the top of his game and gearing up for The Masters of Hack."

Cisco Bellez also had a strong showing, shooting a 3-under par 95. Bellez opened with consecutive pars and continued to excel, finishing the first turn with a field-best score of 30. Despite his impressive performance, Bellez is still seeking his first title and is poised to continue his pursuit at the upcoming Masters of Hack next month.

Jason Kremin finished with a 1-over par 103, displaying steady play from tee-box to green. However, like many others, he faced challenges on the lightning fast greens, resulting in a triple-bogey on the par-3 17th. Kremin recorded bogey or better on 9 holes, but a misstep with an "X" on hole 14 dashed his title hopes. He is determined to bounce back in the next tournament and his sponsors at Heavy Putter, Prilosec, Cleveland Golf, and Nike remain optimistic. Nike expressed confidence in Kremin's driving ability, stating, "Jason is currently driving the ball very well, and when he's on point with his drives, he's a contender for the win!"

Wendell Jones also performed well, recording bogey or better on 9 holes, but was hindered by a few quadruple-bogeys, resulting in a 2-over par 102 finish. Jones' highlight was an exciting par chip that elicited cheers from the gallery. He is expected to return to Paradise Valley, where he has previously performed exceptionally well, winning the 06 Masters of Hack and finishing as a close 2nd last year.

Robert Holmes posted a commendable 6th place finish at the recent PGAHT event, shooting a 3-over par 112. Despite a valiant effort, Holmes faced challenges with his putter on the lightning fast greens, missing some crucial bogey putts. However, his sponsors at Callaway Golf and Srixon express confidence in his abilities, citing his impressive performance on the back-9 at The Masters of Hack last year. They anticipate Holmes will bounce back and finally break 100 in the upcoming tournament.

Gerald Cabrera, the defending Masters of Hack champion, had a tough day on Sunday, shooting a 4-over par 100 and failing to make the envelopes for the first time. His sponsors at Bridgestone and Cobra, however, are not deterred and assure the media that Cabrera will soon regain his form and return to the top.

Players champion Ralph Holmes faced his own challenges, shooting a disappointing 121 and breaking another iron in the process. As he searches for a new iron sponsorship to support his game, his sponsors at Balco and Colt-45 express confidence in his upcoming performance at Paradise Valley, noting his increased focus.

In his amateur debut, Chris Hogan shot 123, a respectable performance. Despite this, his presence was warmly received, and organizers look forward to seeing him at future events. Hogan's progress towards turning pro is eagerly anticipated as he continues to hone his skills through practice.

The recently concluded PGAHT event was hailed as the best USHO to date, with Boundary Oak and Mother Nature playing their parts in making it a special occasion. The PGAHT continues to grow in popularity, thanks to the support of all participants.

Looking ahead, attention now turns to the highly anticipated Masters of Hack, scheduled for June 21st or 22nd at Paradise Valley. This marquee event promises to be a highlight of the PGAHT calendar, akin to the PGA tour's Augusta National event in April.
