Cabrera Wins The Memorial For Second Win in a Row

In a highly competitive match, Gerald Cabrera emerged victorious at The Memorial after showcasing remarkable consistency and skill throughout the tournament. Cabrera opened strong with a sizzling 42, and despite some challenges on the back-9, he regained his focus and closed out with par-par for the win. This marked his second consecutive victory, putting him on par with Steve Jacobson, who also has two tour wins in 2007. The anticipation is building for the next tournament, assuming Jacobson qualifies, as it sets up a potential showdown between the two top-performing golfers.

John Nunes, a four-time champion, displayed remarkable determination as he battled through the front-9, finishing 6-strokes off the pace. Although he fell short of the title, Nunes managed to win the back-9 by 3-strokes, finishing with a field-best score of 47. Sponsors such as Hawaiian Sun Drinks, Nike, and Ping have confidence in Nunes and believe that he will soon achieve his elusive fifth title.

Cisco Bellez made an impressive debut, playing consistent golf and finishing in third place with a score of 100. While there is no word yet on potential endorsement deals, another top-3 finish for Bellez is likely to attract attention from potential sponsors. With tour experience under his belt, Bellez could be a strong contender for the title in his next outing.

Jason Kremin faced some challenges during the tournament, posting a score of 101. Despite managing pars on several holes, he struggled with quads on 8 and 11, as well as difficulties on the par-3 holes. However, sponsors such as Nike, Cleveland Golf, Prilosec, Heavy Putter, and Srixon expect Kremin to make the necessary adjustments and potentially tie Jacobson and Cabrera with a second title this year by continuing to improve his performance on par-3 holes.

Mike Hubner had an impressive performance on the greens, finishing his round with a total of 35 putts and three 1-putts. However, his score of 104 and fifth-place finish were impacted by challenges on the par-3 holes, where he struggled and ended his title hopes. Nevertheless, if Hubner can continue his strong putting performance, he is expected to be a contender in the upcoming Delta Classic, where he will also serve as one of the co-hosts.

Wendell Jones showed promise with a strong front-9 score of 47, but faced difficulties on the back-9, finishing with a score of 60. As always, Jones should be considered a strong contender as the tournament moves to the Delta Classic next month.

Frank Zapata made an appearance and finished with a score of 107, sharing sixth place. However, his most notable performance may have been in the clubhouse, where he engaged in a verbal rivalry with Akili Pease throughout the round and ultimately won a wager on the 18th hole. Pease has called out Zapata for a rematch at Lone Tree next month, provided Zapata qualifies.

Rob Pierce finished with a score of 109, struggling on the front-9 with a score of 57, but playing better on the back-9 with a score of 52. Despite challenges with his putter, Pierce's camp, including sponsors Sky Caddie and Odyssey Putters, believe he will be a strong contender in the upcoming Delta Classic, which is in his backyard. Pierce's camp is also expected to announce a third sponsor soon.

Robert Holmes was unable to break 100 once again, scoring 114. However, considering his recent setback of having his equipment stolen on Friday, he was grateful to even be able to play. He expressed his sincere appreciation to his new sponsor, Roland J. Maples Jr. Esq. Golf, who provided him with a new bag, a Snake-Eyes Quick Strike hybrid, and a set of Acer-XDS irons. Holmes also acknowledged the assistance of Jason Kremin, who lent him a PDC driver. Securing all these items on short notice, especially as a left-handed golfer, was not an easy feat, and Holmes was thankful to his cousin and Jay for their help during this challenging time. Despite the frustration of losing his gear, Holmes has faith in his new equipment and approaches the Delta Classic with confidence. He is determined to get accustomed to his new gear before the tournament and believes he has a chance to contend at Lone Tree. Notably, Extra-Strength Tylenol, Callaway Golf, Snake-Eyes, and Srixon all share the same belief in Holmes' potential success.

In his debut, Russ Lee carded a score of 124. He opted to maintain his amateur status and did not compete, but he gained valuable experience on the tour. Everyone is hopeful that Lee will make another appearance soon and potentially turn professional. Regardless, it was a pleasure to have Lee on the tour, and he was warmly welcomed.

Akili Pease faced challenges, finishing with a score of 134. As if that wasn't enough, he also lost his 18th hole wager to Frank and endured some friendly banter from the aforementioned Zapata at the clubhouse. However, Pease took it in stride and openly challenged Frank Zapata to a rematch in the future. Despite moving to L.A., Pease is determined to fly back just to defeat Zapata. In response, Zapata jokingly offered to buy Pease's ticket and arrange for a car-service pickup at the airport. It's clear that a rivalry is brewing between them, and we hope to see both of them show up for the next tournament to settle it on the course.
